Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

With your help we persuaded Mayor Kurt Wilson and the Roswell City Council to vote unanimously to preserve the 1859 Methodist Church Building on Green Street on 8/12/2024.

Once the city builds a parking deck behind the historic building, the exterior stucco will be removed and the brick walls, hand hewn roof trusses, and roof will be saved.  The   building will then be used as an open-air pavilion for concerts, special events, or just for shelter for citizens walking by.

Save Roswell has pledged its support to help raise money to fund preservation efforts and to register the building on the National Registry of Historic Places.  We will call a general meeting in September to plan our next steps.  We hope you will join us.

Expect to see new Save Roswell’s History Signs seeking donations for preservation soon.  If you are willing, let us know and we can put a yard sign on your property.

Because of You the 1859 building will stand for another 165 years and beyond.

Remember what you did when you drive by and be proud.

Historically Significant

The Old Methodist Church in Roswell, Georgia stands as more than just a physical structure; it is a testament to our collective history, a living artifact that bridges the past with the present and shapes the identity of our community. Built in 1859, this venerable edifice has weathered the storms of time, witnessing the ebbs and flows of history, and bearing witness to the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of generations past.

Beyond its architectural significance, the Old Methodist Church holds a profound cultural and historical importance. Recognized by the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) in 1936, this designation bestowed upon it by the federal government underscores its status as a national treasure. HABS, established during the Great Depression as a means to document and preserve America's architectural heritage, serves as a testament to the enduring value we place on our built environment and the stories they encapsulate.

To tear down the Church would be to sever a vital link to our collective past, erasing a tangible connection to the events, people, and ideas that have shaped our community. Preserving the Old Methodist Church is not merely an act of conservation; it is an affirmation of our commitment to honoring and safeguarding our shared heritage for future generations. By maintaining this historic landmark, we ensure that the stories of those who worshipped within its walls, who sought solace and inspiration within its sacred spaces, will continue to resonate with us and with those who come after us.

In a rapidly changing world, where the old often gives way to the new, preserving the Old Methodist Church is an act of defiance against the forces of time and progress. It is a declaration that some things are worth saving, not simply for their intrinsic beauty or architectural significance, but for the stories they tell and the memories they hold.

Therefore, we urge all those who cherish our shared heritage and value the preservation of our cultural legacy to join us in our efforts to save the Old Methodist Church in Roswell, Georgia. Let us come together as stewards of history, custodians of memory, and guardians of our collective identity, ensuring that this cherished landmark continues to stand as a beacon of our past and a testament to our enduring spirit.
